This summer I made the decision to move from finishing my recycled sterling silver pieces in 9k gold plating to 18k gold vermeil.

Gold vermeil is a layer of real gold, (at least 2.5 microns thick) bonded over my recycled sterling silver. Its of a higher quality than standard gold-plated jewellery and regulated by industry standards.

This gives you a little insight into the technique:

  • the recycled sterling silver piece is first cleaned and polished to ensure a smooth even finish
  • it’s then plated with a layer of 18 karat gold through an electrolysis process. This creates a durable and long-lasting layer of gold that gives the jewellery a luxurious and high-end appearance.

Gold vermeil is more affordable than solid gold and of a higher quality than 9k gold plating.  It looks and feels luxurious and is made to last longer than 9k gold plated pieces. 18k gold is a beautifully sunny, buttery colour – elevating each piece.

Luxury without the hefty price tag 💛
